The Ngorongoro Crater lies within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and is one of Africa’s Seven Natural Wonders. Formed after a massive volcanic collapse, the crater created a natural enclosure that now supports extraordinary wildlife density in a relatively small area.

  • Short rains: November–December
  • Long rains: March–May

  • Over 25,000 animals year-round
  • Big Five: elephant, buffalo, rhino, lion, leopard
  • Hippos, hyenas, warthogs, zebras, wildebeest, gazelles
  • Flamingos and water birds at Lake Magadi
